tl;dr – This will be Marriott’s first property in the Queenstown area of New Zealand.

Last week, Marriott announced its plans to bring its St. Regis brand to Queenstown, New Zealand, in 2027. The property will be located in the city’s center with close proximity to restaurants, Lake Wakatipu, and fun hiking excursions up Ben Lomond.

BTW, you must stop to eat the obligatory post-summit pie.

More importantly, this St. Regis provides the perfect crashpad for visiting the Central Otago wine region, home to some of the very best Pinot Noirs in the world. (If you’re a regular reader, you’re probably not shocked I’m bringing this up.)

This is a significant addition to the luxury scene in the area, and in my opinion, much needed. I visited Queenstown a few years ago and stayed at the Hilton Queenstown, which was solid, though a bit dated.

As far as true luxury options, there’s the Rosewood Matakauri and Eichardt’s Private Hotel, an SLH Hotel which is bookable through Hilton thanks to the ‘Great SLH & Mr. and Mrs. Smith swapperoo‘ a few years ago.

The full details of all the upcoming hotels’ offerings haven’t been divulged, but we do know there will be The St. Regis brand signatures – St. Regis Spa, The Drawing Room, St. Regis Bar, and St. Regis Butler Service. Oh, and the sabrage – gotta have the sabrage.

I look forward to checking this place out once it’s open.
