tl;dr – The Four Seasons debut will mark a significant shakeup in the luxury scene for Brazil’s vibrant city.

Four Seasons just announced an exciting new project – a new hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Scheduled for a 2029 debut, the plan is for 120 rooms and suites, several dining options, a rooftop pool (and bar), spa, and of course, the beach.

The hotel will occupy the space formerly occupied by the shuttered Hotel Marina Palace Rio Leblon, situated directly on famed Ipanema Beach. The property will undergo a full renovation prior to its debut. Notably, the hotel is the tallest building in the area, so there will be sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean.

This would be the fourth Four Seasons (provided others aren’t announced and come to market before 2029) in South America, the other three being in Colombia.

At present, some of the better hotels in Rio include the Copacabana Palace, A Belmond Hotel, and the Hotel Fasano. For points options, there’s Fairmont (Accor), JW Marriott, Grand Hyatt, and both a flagship Hilton and Sheraton. Thus, the Four Seasons has a great opportunity to enter the market as the marquee luxury destination in the city.
