Avianca Back At It: Selling LifeMiles with a 160% Bonus
Through March 31, 2025, you'll receive a bonus of up to 160% on your purchase of Avianca LifeMiles. This could be a decent opportunity to up your Lifemiles balance for a savvy redemption.
It's worth mentioning that Avianca sells miles multiple times throughout the year. The airline offers near-monthly promotions to purchase miles throughout the year, so if you aren't a buyer here you'll likely have many more opportunities to do so in the coming months. Over the last few years, the best offer we've seen to purchase Lifemiles points miles has been with a 200% bonus, though sales are most frequently offered between 160% and 185%. This current offer is now the highest but it's exactly the same bonus offer Avianca has run for the last three sales.

Avianca's Lifemiles Program Hurdles
Lifemiles isn't my favorite program for making redemptions though as I acknowledge in the next section there are some solid ones. That said, I have to share a word of caution. Lifemiles tech can be glitchy at times and the program's customer service is at times, frankly nonexistent. That may not matter if you have a super straightforward redemption in mind and are 100% certain you won't be changing your plans, but I did want to through that out there for transparency.
Don't be surprised if you go to book a flight and you're stuck flying on an endless loading page flight to nowhere...

What are Some Good Uses of Lifemiles?
Oftentimes you'll find the best redemption deals come from using the loyalty currency of one airline to redeem for a flight on another airline. For example, one might redeem Lifemiles to fly with a partner airline, say Singapore Airlines, as they are members of the same airline alliance - Star Alliance. Airlines also strike one-off partnerships with others airlines, even if they aren't part of the same alliance, thus enabling members to earn and redeem miles when flying each respective program. This is a key concept for playing the points and miles game and I touch upon this briefly in this Introduction to Points and Miles - A Primer post.
The Lifemiles loyalty program is a favorite among points and miles enthusiasts due to the good availability of premium cabin partner awards seating, lack of fuel surcharges, reasonable redemption costs, and frequent miles sales. There are some solid redemption options within Lifemiles.
For example, for just 40,000 Lifemiles (one way) you can fly in style - business class - between the Japan and Oceania on All Nippon Airways. That's incredible value.

Or if you're keen on seeing Europe, you could fly Lufthansa first class, from the US to Frankfurt, for 87,000 Lifemiles.

Conclusion
If you plan to take advantage of this Avianca points sale you have until the March 31th, 2025 to do so.
