tl;dr – There are now five Caption by Hyatt hotels open worldwide.

Way back in 2019, Hyatt announced Caption by Hyatt, part of the chain’s heavy lean into the lifestyle segment. Though Hyatt’s been on a tear in terms of launches and acquisitions, activity with Caption by Hyatt has been slow-going – before last week, there were just three Caption by Hyatt locations open worldwide. That number has now grown to five as Hyatt recently debuted both the Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo and the Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney. Let’s dive in.

Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo

With 195 rooms, which, from early reviews, are *low-key* spacious, the Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo puts travelers in the heart of it all. You’re near the necessary train stations and several points of interest.

The Caption brand goes for a bit of a less-is-more, barebones feel, so if you’re looking for a luxury experience, this probably isn’t it. The hotel’s calling card is its lobby area, Talk Shop, a space that’s actually open to the public as well.

It’s part hangout, workspace, and eatery, and the Caption Burger has drawn rave reviews.

I was unsure if the hotel had a gym, but it does. (Thanks to early reviewers)

The property checks in as a category 5 hotel, which is a bit disappointing as it’s just outside the reach of an FNA 1-4 certificate. You’ll need at least 17,000 points for a free night. I’m seeing ~¥50,400 ($330.85, today) for a standard king room next week.

More hotel options in Tokyo are always a good thing, particularly if they can speak to different segments of travelers. Caption by Hyatt Kabutocho Tokyo seems ideal for travelers who don’t plan on seeing their room all that much, while out and about exploring the metropolis that is Tokyo. If you plan on finding a seat at a ramen spot for lunch and getting into whatever you can the rest of the day – but also want an easy coffee on your way out the door in the morning or a burger late night on your way in (you should be showing FamilyMart some love though) – this hotel seems like a fit.

Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney

Similar to its Japanese counterpart, the Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney is well-located, taking root in Sydney’s Haymarket, near Chinatown.

With 174 rooms, the property is a category 3 hotel (starting at 9,000 points). A sample early rate for a standard room is AUD 266 ($173.40) per night.

Guests will have access to a fitness center and can also lounge, relax, dine, and visit the Talk Shop.

If you’re passing through Sydney, this property could make for a good use of a category 1-4 FNA.
