Marriott Bringing the Autograph Collection to Nepal: The Soaltee Opens in Kathmandu Joins Bonvoy

Tl;dr – This is Marriott’s fourth property in Nepal’s Capital City.

If you’re traveling to Kathmandu, whether it be for leisure, as a launching point before your climb of Everest, or for some other reason – there is now another points-hotel option for you to choose from. Marriott recently welcomed The Soaltee Kathmandu, Autograph Collection to its portfolio. Let’s jump into it!

The Soaltee Kathmandu

With its 285 keys, Soaltree Kathmandu is one of the more popular traditional hotels in Kathmandu, alongside the Hotel Yak and Yeti. The Soaltree boasts a convenient location, close to popular points of interest like the Swayambhunath Stupa’ Monkey Temple’ and Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The property’s design and decor are a tribute to its Nepalese roots, and this is evident in both the rooms and the hotel’s common areas.

Room types range from standard twin or king rooms to the Presidential Suite, which comes equipped with its own gym, hot tub, and lawn.

The property offers some quality amenities, including its full-service Tranquility Spa, tennis courts, a 24/7 fitness center, and two pools.

There are four restaurants on site: Garden Terrace – a full-service restaurant serving an internationally inspired array of flavors throughout the day; Kakori – bringing to life the vibrant flavors of Awadhi Indian gastronomy; Bao Xuan – specializing in irresistibly flavorsome dishes from regions across China; and Patio – an American casual outdoor dining spot for a laidback meal & exotic beverages.

With over 25,000 square feet of banquet and event space, the Soaltee Kathmandu will, no doubt, be a popular wedding venue.

Rates are as low as $128 per night for a base-level room. 20,000 points per night is the floor for redemptions.

My Thoughts

It’s interesting to see the hotel scene in Nepal grow. This is Marriott’s fourth hotel in the city, and of the ‘core-four’ hotel chains, Marriott has the largest footprint. Back in 2023, while attending a wedding in Nepal, I stayed at three properties in the city: the Marriott Kathmandu, the Hyatt Regency, and the Hyatt Place Kathmandu, which recently underwent a well-deserved reflagging to the Hyatt Centric Kathmandu – it was among the nicest and most well-run Hyatt Places I’d ever seen. I’m curious if Hyatt’s choice to rebrand the Hyatt Place to the Hyatt Centric – which just happened earlier this month – is directly tied to this development from Marriott as the Hyatt Centric’s title now includes “Soalteemode” in its name as well. (Reviews forthcoming on all three, btw). Hilton has a flagship property, as well as an interesting-looking one courtesy of SLH. IHG has two Holiday Inns, and if you include Accor, there’s a Mercure that boasts a shiny rooftop infinity pool as a draw.

I really enjoyed my visit to Kathmandu. Though I don’t have any immediate plans to return, when I inevitably do, perhaps I’ll spend a night or two at The Soaltee.
