Tl;dr – The Patina Maldives, Fari Island will join Marriott Bonvoy as part of Design Hotels, just months after Marriott added two other Maldives hotels.
Today, Thursday, May 15, 2025, Marriott welcomes a fun property to the Bonvoy portfolio, the Patina Maldives, Fari Island. The Patina Maldives, Fari Island will settle next to The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands and The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort as one of Marriott’s higher-end resorts in the archipelago nation. This news comes only months after the Seaside Finolhu Baa Atoll Maldives, joined Design Hotels and onboarded to the Bonvoy loyalty program. Additionally, in February, we saw the opening of the JW Marriott Kaafu Atoll Island Resort, Marriott’s second JW Marriott in the Maldives.

The Patina Maldives, Fair Island is the 10th Bonvoy property in the Maldives, and Marriott has quite a lineup:

The Patina Brand & The Patina Maldives, Fari Island
If you’re unfamiliar, the Patina brand is a sister brand to the Capella Hotels, a chain of luxury properties that have received accolades over the last few years, including the possibly amorphous title of ‘Best Hotel in the World‘ (The Capella Bangkok). Recently, I wrote about the impending opening of the Patina Osaka, an exciting new property that will add a lot of juice to Osaka’s shiting luxury hotel scene. There are only three existing/planned Patina properties in the world, Fari Island, Osaka, and Sanya (2027), with Fari Island being the only one currently open and accepting guests.

The Patina Maldives opened four years ago almost to the day – on May 18, 2021. It has been a member of Design Hotels since its inception. Coincidentally, the property opened two months before its now-sister property, the Ritz-Carlton, Fari Island. If you’re curious, the properties are not far from each other, making for an enticing ‘sampling’ opportunity.

Like many properties in the Maldives, the hotel is stunning.

The hotel features ’90 contemporary one—to three-bedroom Beach and Water Pool Villas, alongside 20 Fari Studios.’ There are 13 dining outlets on-site, and guests can enjoy amenities including a ‘beach club, swimming pools, boutique outlets, an art pavilion, a luxurious spa, 24-hour gym, free bikes, various water sports, and a marina village.’

Elite Benefits, Rates, and Redemptions at The Patina Maldives, Fari Island
As a Design Hotels property, guests can expect the following benefits:

Additionally, the Patina Maldives offers generous property-specific benefits that even Silver elites are eligible for, including complimentary breakfast at the properties, a full-service restaurant, and Portico.
Cash rates hover between $1700 and $2300 per night (with a few outlier rates reaching as high as ~$5000 around holidays like New Year’s). Though guests will eventually be able to redeem points for The Patina Maldives, those rates are not yet available.

Is a Larger Partnership Between Capella/Patina and Marriott on the Horizon?
I wouldn’t think so, but I also 1) wouldn’t not be surprised if something more came out of this down the line, and 2) would be rather intrigued if that did happen. As mentioned earlier, the Patina Maldives, Fari Island has been a member of Design Hotels from the jump, so it’s inclusion in the Bonvoy loyalty program may be more about getting greater distribution in a very competitive market (Booking.com claims there are over 600 luxury hotels in the Maldives). That said, despite joining Marriott Bonvoy, the operation of the Patina Maldives, Fari Island will be left up to the Patina/Capella team, and I wouldn’t be surprise if networks between more intertwined and relationship deepen, after stakeholders from both sides get a chance to ‘feel each other out’ while working more closely together.
Conclusion
The Patina Maldives, Fari Island is now part of the Bonvoy program, alongside Marriott’s two other recent Maldives additions.
What say you? Are you planning to check any of these properties out?
