Book Now: Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Turks & Caicos Opening March 8th

While researching some properties in the Caribbean today, I noticed that the long-awaited Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa in Turks and Caicos, is now accepting reservations for its March debut. Located on South Caicos, Salterra will join Sailrock Resort (review forthcoming) as one of two luxury properties on the island. In 2023, I had the pleasure of staying at the other - Sailrock (SLH, bookable through Hilton) - and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Late last year, we also saw the debut of South Bank, another luxury SLH property located on the southern part of Providenciales, the main island of Turks and Caicos.

Given the few resorts in South Caicos, the island is a much quieter alternative to the much more developed Grace Bay Beach. Additionally, the launch of direct service to South Caicos Airport (XSC) from three American Airlines hubs (Miami, Philadelphia, and Charlotte) should add a bit more convenience and flexibility if you plan to visit Salterra or combine the resort with a stay at a different property on the busier Providenciales. Ok, let's jump into it.

Judging from the online booking calendar, Salterra's first official day of operation will be March 8, 2025. Rates for the property are pricey to start—as high as $1322 per night—but they ebb and flow with the peak, low, and shoulder seasons, bottoming out at around $617 per night.

Various months of the year, you can get in the door for as low as 82,000 Bonvoy points per night.

The resort looks very promising.

Photos suggest the on-property beaches abut calmer waters, exhibiting those Caribbean-cyan-azure-turquoise-electric-hues that make islands like Turks & Caicos attractive. I mention this because, given the resort's location, it wasn't immediately clear whether the waters of the Atlantic would make for rougher, less picturesque swimming.

Sailrock resort, located 20 minutes away on the narrowest points of South Caicos, features two beaches, one on the Caribbean coast and the other on the Atlantic. The Atlantic coast was very rough - the water a deeper, cerulean-ocean blue and not recommended for swimming.
With 100 rooms, 'including 52 one- and two-bedroom suites and two penthouse Governor's suites, Salterra will be about three times the size of Sailrock but still somewhat intimate.

In addition to room service, Salterra has four dedicated dining outlets: Regatta, a quintessentially 'British Caribbean restaurant'; Cobo Bar & Grill, serving Latin American cuisine; Flamingo Cafe, a coffee shop; and Brine, an 'international' restaurant promising a fancy wine list. Regatta will be the dedicated breakfast outlet for the complimentary elite breakfast.

Guests can enjoy a modern fitness center, tennis, water sports, wellness activities, multiple pools - including one for children to keep families happy - and a snazzy-looking spa with a Roman-villa-style pool spa for pre and post-treatment dipping.

Photos from Salterra's website suggest that one can arrange off-site excursions, such as island bike rides and fishing tours.

Conclusion
Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa on South Caicos island in Turks & Caicos, opens in early March. The property has decent redemption rates, and the photos and available literature lead me to believe this will be a fan favorite for folks seeking a fresh, luxury beach resort. Luxury Collection properties have much more wiggle room and much less pressure to live up to a given brand image - however poorly or well-defined it may be. So, if you're fatigued with options like the Park Hyatt St. Kitts, Ritz-Carlton Turks and Caicos, Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, or Ritz-Carlton St. Thomas, consider giving this new property a shot.
