Tl;dr—The Patina Osaka is scheduled to open on May 1, 2025, marking a significant addition to the Luxury Hotel Scene in Osaka.

This week, I'll be starting the recap of a trip to Japan, Australia, and New Zealand I took last year, and as such, I figured it would make sense to add fun tidbits of loyalty, hotel, and airline news surrounding those same countries. Up first is an exciting development - the Patina Osaka, one of the most anticipated openings in Japan this year, has a confirmed opening date of May 1, 2025. This marks the first Patina hotel in Japan and only the brand's second property to come to market (though there is a location planned for Sanya due in 2027). I first reported on this property in late January, and as we now have a confirmed date, I decided to resurface this on your radar. Let's jump into it!

The Patina Osaka

If you're unfamiliar with the Patina brand, that isn't too surprising. There is only one current Patina hotel in operation—the Patina Maldives. That said, you may be more familiar with Patina's higher-profile sister brand, Capella Hotels, which operates a number of buzzier, highly-awarded hotels, such as the Capella Bangkok.

Located in the heart of the Chou Ward, just across the street from Osaka Castle Park, the Patina Osaka will offer views of one of Osaka's most prominent landmarks.

From my last piece, we already knew the Patina would run 221 rooms deep and feature more of a hip-nature-theme, bringing some refreshment to more 'classic' luxury you can expect at  Osaka's other luxury hotels, including a Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons Osaka, Conrad Osaka, the upcoming Waldorf Astoria Osaka, and an in-need-of-reinvigoration St. Regis (review forthcoming).

Notably, the Patina's Chou Ward location will distance itself from properties in the bustling Namba and Dotonburi districts.

Courtesy of HospitalityNet, we've learned that the Patina Osaka will offer several unique experiences, such as a Japanese-style listening lounge —heavy on the vinyl —designed in collaboration with Brooklyn DJ OJAS and appropriately titled "The Listening Room."

If you're like me and you love a robust spa area, then you're in luck. The Patina Osaka's wellness area will take up an entire floor with six hydrotherapy rooms, 'cryotherapy suites,' an infrared sauna, and a red-light therapy room. Expect a modern fitness center with some of the latest equipment and a large pool for lapping (or simply lounging) while you admire the Osaka skyline.

As one of Osaka's nicknames is the "Nation's Kitchen," it's only fitting that the hotel's dining program pulls its weight. Including the aforementioned Listening Room, there will be five other dining outlets: P72, 'an ode to slow, mindful dining, celebrating our Japanese farmers and their harvest of the finest organic, ethically sourced ingredients'; Barin, a Teppanyaki restaurant; Iñaki, a Basque themed restaurant; NIJIRI, a tea house and French patisserie; and Sonata Bar & Lounge, a cocktail lounge offering small bites, 'set to an eclectic music program.'

The hotel will also offer 'morning soundscapes', Patina Rise - a movement and breath-work class, and Patina Selects and Patina Sounds - two additional daily options to 'catch the beats'. They obviously want you to 'vibe out' at the Patina.

Regarding rates, opening pricing for a standard room currently sits at ¥129,330 ($875.77 at the time of writing), though if you shop around, you may find a non-refundable rate for about $200 cheaper. This rate is comparable to pricing at The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka, for the same dates, so if you're up for trying out a new brand/property that has every reason to put its best foot forward (while taking its first steps, I might add), you should give it a whirl.

Conclusion

The new Patina Osaka will debut on May 1, 2025, and will be a welcome addition to the Osaka hotel scene. If you plan to be in the Kansai region of Japan this Spring or Fall, it may be worthwhile to spend a night or two there to experience the Patina brand's hospitality.
