tl;dr – Service to these islands begins this November and is serviced by QantasLink.

Beginning November 3, 2025, Qantas will commence service to both Christmas and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, both of which are Australian territories located in the Indian Ocean. Service will run twice weekly from Perth.

Christmas Island is famous for the great red crab migration that takes place on the island. As mentioned in the Qantas press release, David Attenborough referred to his coverage of the migration as one of the greatest television moments of his career, describing it to be “like a great scarlet curtain moving down the cliffs and rocks towards the sea”.

The Cocos (Keeling) Islands have some of that quintessential ‘postcard’ scenery, and due to their surrounding reefs, offer great scuba diving and snorkeling opportunities.

If you’re hopping on either of these routes, let me know in the comments!
