Tl;dr – The Dragon Bravo White Sage Fires are burning near the Grand Canyon’s North Rim.
The Dragon Bravo Fire, one of two wildfires (the other is the White Sage Fire) blazing in Northern Arizona that have affected 50 to 80 structures, has burned down the Historic Grand Canyon Lodge. Completed in 1928, the Grand Canyon Lodge at the North Rim was built by architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood and was one of the prominent structures on that side of the park, often spotted first before would-be canyon viewers laid eyes on the Grand Canyon itself. On a positive note, there have been no reported injuries, and evacuations of the area have been completely successful.
A wildlife blogger, The Hot Shot Wake Up has provided this a photo of the lodge ablaze from a subscriber.

Officials have announced that the North Rim part of the Grand Canyon, one of the country’s most storied and popular National Parks, will be closed for the remainder of the season.

Firefighters were evacuated over the weekend, due to potential dangers from chlorine gas – the fires damaged many structures, some of which were reserved for chemical use and water treatment.
As of Monday morning, both fires are still blazing. I’ve visited the Grand Canyon on two occasions in my life, most recently back in 2023 as part of my mother-in-law’s retirement trip. It really is a magnificent natural wonder, one worth seeing at least once in your life. Here’s hoping that the fires can be contained soon.
