Tl;dr – Virgin Australia will begin flying proxy service between four Australian cities and Doha on leased Qatar 777s airplanes, with a Qatar Airways crew.
Late last year, Qatar and Virgin Australia announced a partnership, and we’re now about to see things fruit.

These new nonstop flights to Doha from Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Melbourne will be onboard a leased Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with a Qatar Airways crew.
Starting June 12, 2025, Virgin Australia will offer Qatar Airways-operated daily flights to Sydney, Australia, departing Doha at 2:50 pm each day. Return service will leave from Doha at 9:15 am daily.

Notably, Qatar’s current service to Sydney is operated with an Airbus A380 aircraft, which does not feature Qatar’s beloved Qsuites offering. At present, Q Suites are found on all Airbus A350-1000s and select A350-900s, Boeing 777-200LRs, and Boeing 777-300ERs.

These leased 777s should create more opportunities for folks to try out QSuites. Flights between Doha and Brisbane commence on June 19, 2025, and we’ll see service between Doha and Perth one week later on June 26. Melbourne service won’t kick off until December 2, 2025.
