Tl;dr – The budget carrier reduced its order from 47 to between 10 and 15 planes
Hungary-based economic carrier Wizz Air recently decreased a major A321XLR fleet order, decreasing the number of desired planes by 70%. It’s a significant sign that the carriers’ long-haul ambitions might struggle to withstand turbulent skies.
Last year, Wizz Air made a splash when it announced it’d be launching service from the UK and Europe to the Middle East, specifically Jeddah and Abu Dhabi.

Recently, we learned that Wizz would be pulling out of Abu Dhabi, citing factors such as geopolitical instability, market access limitations, and operational challenges, including accelerated engine wear in the hot climate.
The A321XLR hasn’t had the best week. Elsewhere in A321XLR news, an Iberia Airlines jet recently suffered significant damage to its nose when a large bird struck the front of the plane.

Wizz Air has mentioned it will refocus its efforts in the European market.
