tl;dr – Dreams of an easy backroad into meaningful Bonvoy status are dashed.
A few months ago, while covering Marriott’s planned acquisition of citizenM, I wrote about how citizenM’s then-existing (free) status match could translate into meaningful Marriott Bonvoy status once the deal closed.
Well…
Not so much.
The other day I received an email indicating that the mycitizenM+ status I hold would become Bonvoy Gold Elite.
So I should start by saying that I’m already Titanium Elite, so this wasn’t so much a plan I was counting on, more so one that would have been fun to write about/see come to fruition. Secondly, Gold Elite, while not super rewarding, does have some enhanced benefits like 2pm late checkout (based upon availability). Here’s a refresher:
