Your New Stopover Spot Before the Galapagos or the Amazon: InterContinental Guayaquil Scheduled Coming 2027

Tl;dr – The InterContinental Guayaquil will be IHG’s fifth property in Ecuador and the first under the chain’s flagship brand.

If you’re planning a 2027 trip to Ecuador to visit, say, the Galapagos or the Amazon, there will be a new points-forward hotel to help with your through-transit to these locations. IHG recently announced the InterContinental Guayaquil, scheduled for a 2027 Debut.

The IC Guayaquil, located in Samborondón, will have 101 guestrooms and suites. Guests can also enjoy a rooftop pool, spa, and state-of-the-art fitness center. About 20 minutes from Guayaquil’s José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport, Samborondón is known for being one of the country’s more exclusive residential and commercial areas.

IHG’s coverage in Latin America is decently impressive, particularly within its Flagship InterContinental Brand. If you trace a line from Mexico down to the tip of South America, every country touching the Pacific Ocean (including this newly announced Guayaquil property) has (or will have) an InterContinental Hotel.

Additionally, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and the Caribbean island of Dominica are also homes to InterContinental properties. Within Ecuador, IHG also has the Hotel Indigo Galapagos – one of only two points-hotels in the Galapagos Islands (the other being the three-year-old Royal Palm Galapagos, a Curio Collection Hotel by Hilton). Guayaquil and Quito are the only entry points to the two commercial airports of the Galapagos Islands.
