tl;dr – Purchase a gift card to trigger the merchant credit.

A big story this year has been Amex’s revamp of its Platinum card lines and the continued ‘couponing’ of the card’s benefits. Some folks hate them. Others like them. Many are ‘meh’ about them. However you feel about the changes, perhaps you can put at least one of those credits to good use – in the form of a gift card.

One such benefit the personal Platinum card offers is a $300 Lululemon annual credit (broken down into four $75 quarterly statement credits). I don’t shop at Lululemon, but I’ve got at least a few folks in my orbit who do. As such, I thought I’d purchase a gift card for exactly $75 to confirm it would trigger the statement credit.

And it did:

If you’re credit would otherwise go to waste, perhaps consider purchasing a gift card to give to someone who will use it.
