Early last month, a Skymark Airlines (Japanese budget carrier) 737 was struck by lightning as it approached Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport.
Via Aviation Safety, “The flight continued to the destination, where a safe landing was carried out eleven minutes later. No injuries among [the] six crew and 177 passengers.”
Aviation Safety also noted that “at almost [the] same place and the same time of the same day of the [Skymark] accident, another aircraft B767-381ER of Air Do also suffered a similar incident – being hit by a thunderbolt strike.
The Skymark vessel suffered damage to its airframe and was grounded for two weeks before being sent to Tokyo for extensive repairs.
