tl;dr – The US ranked 32. Which country claimed the top spot?
Numbeo released a 2025 Mid-year Traffic Index Report revealing the countries with the ‘worst traffic congestion in the world.”

At the top of the list? Nigeria.

The US ranked 32nd, just behind Uruguay and ahead of Puerto Rico. China was a few spots behind at 35, and Canada ranked 43rd.
At the bottom of the list (89 countries were included in total) was Estonia.
Notably, Costa Rica – an increasingly popular tourist destination for global travelers – ranked second. I’ve spent significant time in the country – in San Jose, the capital, in particular – and I can vouch that traffic can be pretty tough there.
Unsurprisingly, many of the countries that ranked higher on the list also had high CO2 Emission scores.
