tl;dr – IHG converts a historic property into a flagship Intercontinental hotel for Cape Town.
Featuring 306 rooms and suites and offering views of Table Mountain, the InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town is now open, providing Cape Town with another upscale hotel option.

Originally opened as the Table Hotel, the property’s original debut was hailed as a major addition to the country’s tourism infrastructure. Its story is very much intertwined with that of South Africa’s own political and cultural history. In 1997, then-South African President Nelson Mandela formally opened the Table Hotel with a speech championing the country’s tourism potential in the post-apartheid era. (shoutout to Wayback Machine).

For dining, the IC Table Bay Cape Town has four outlets – Flint & Fennel, Le Bistrot de JAN by Michelin-starred chef Jan Hendrik, the Botanists Table, and Solandra – a poolside eatery. That said, when in Cape Town, be sure to check out Publik Wine Bar and the Gin Bar. If you have time (and enjoy wine), I recommend hiking Table Mountain on your way to the Constantia Winelands, or driving out to Franschhoek and Stellenbosch, where Black Elephant Vintners is a must-stop.

Amenities at the property include a spa, fitness center, kids club, rooftop pool, and an executive lounge.

Rates at the IC Table Bay Cape Town were pretty steep (at least) in April – 16,575 ZAR ($1040.50 USD) for a classic king room.

147,900 IHG Rewards points are enough for one free night.

Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront is buzzing with development and is the city’s go-to area for the best upscale properties. Marriott’s bringing an Edition hotel to the neighborhood. The V&A Waterfront is also where you’ll find both the One&Only Cape Town and the Cape Grace, A Fairmont Managed Hotel. For points hotels, other options in the city include the Hyatt Regency Cape Town and the Westin Cape Town.
