tl;dr – More efforts to expand Southwest’s international presence.
I just spent some extended time in Rio De Janeiro – the same city where Southwest just dropped the news of its latest international partnership with Singapore Airlines. Dating back to last year, we’ve seen Southwest strike several other international partnerships with the likes of Turkish Airlines, Icelandair, Condor, Philippine Airlines, EVA Air, and China Airlines, and All Nippon Airways (ANA).

Like many of these other partnerships, the Singapore Airlines deal is an interline agreement that allows travelers to book single-ticket journeys to and from the United States, connecting to destinations where Southwest and Singapore Airlines fly. Specifically, travelers can now seamlessly connect between Southwest and Singapore Airlines to fly transpacific itineraries through three airports – Los Angeles (LAX) – Seattle (SEA), and San Francisco (SFO).

Arguably, Singapore Airlines stands out as Southwest’s most premium airline partner, alongside All Nippon Airways (ANA).
