FYI and YMMV – Miles Transfers Between Alaska and Hawaiian Can Be Done in ANY Quantity, No Matter How Small

Source: Tenor

Tl;dr – I successfully transferred a rouge amount of points from my HawaiianMiles account to my Alaska Mileage Plan account.

Arguably, the biggest and most exciting airline news headline of last year (and into this year) has been Alaska’s merger with Hawaiian Airlines. This news is a major domino in Oneworld’s impending dominance over the South Pacific and Oceanic markets. Week by week, the marriage of the two airlines continues to evolve, and we travelers are gaining more clarity about the new normal for this combined entity. For example, we just learned that the two loyalty programs will become one in August of 2025, and Amex transfers to Hawaiian (and thus, indirect Amex transfers to Alaska) will cease in June.

Just recently, when transferring miles from Hawaiian to Alaska, I noticed a minor quirk that might be helpful to some folks—it appears you can transfer miles between the two programs in any quantity, without regard to the 50-mile increments.

The other day, I was looking to redeem Mileage Plan miles for a business class redemption on Condor, and I noticed I was a hair short of the needed amount, 70,000 miles. I remembered a small stash of HawaiianMiles leftover from a previous redemption, so I decided to move some Hawaiian miles over to Alaska. The transfer page indicates that you need to move miles in increments of 50, but as I just needed 44 miles, I decided to test whether this was possible.

Using the slider (you can also enter the number of miles in the text field), I selected 44 miles and, surprisingly, could continue the process.

After completing the flow, sure enough, I successfully moved 44 Hawaiian miles to Alaska Mileage Plan, making things a little bit easier.

If you find yourself in similar situations where you need just a small amount of miles to top off your balance on either account, it seems you can move miles in any quantity. Given that HawaiianMiles will be deprecated soon, this won’t be a thing for much longer, but if it helps you now—yay!
