136-Room Mandarin Oriental Venice Coming April 2026

Tl;dr – The Hong Kong-based hotelier will rebrand the current San Clemente Palace Hotel in Venice, Italy.

Mandarin Oriental is set to take over a luxury property in Venice, the San Clemente Palace Hotel. Venice is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy, and with good reason – it’s a beautiful city. The city also has several points-friendly and/or luxury hotels: through Marriott Bonvoy, you have the Gritti Palace, St. Regis, and the JW Marriott Venice; Hilton’s portfolio is supported by a plethora of regal renovated palaces from Small Luxury Hotels of the World; IHG has a snappy Hotel Indigo; Accor’s got the MGallery Papadopoli Hotel Venezia; and through Hyatt you can book boutique Mrs. & Mrs. Smith Hotels. Additionally, Four Seasons manages the Hotel Danieli, and there’s also the Aman Venice.

Though it’s not a points-hotel that you can easily access via transferable rewards (like those mentioned above), the Mandarin Oriental San Clemente is booking with elusive ‘Fans of M.O’ rewards points. That said, as the property is on its own island, similar to the JW Marriott Venice (review forthcoming), it’s worth taking a peek at. Let’s jump into it!

Mandarin Oriental Venice

Although Mandarin Oriental has already taken over the day-to-day operations of the property, the hotel will close in November to undergo a renovation, reopening as the Mandarin Oriental Venice in April 2026.

Fans of old-world history will be at peace here. Yes, it’s Europe, where everything seems ‘old,’ but the property includes buildings from a 900-year-old monastery and a 12th-century church. Similar to the JW Marriott, the grounds and some of the property’s 136 rooms and suites will offer picturesque views of the main island of Venice and Centro Storico.

It’ll be approximately a 10-minute boat ride across the lagoon to Piazza San Marco.

This should be an interesting option for your next Venetian getaway, whether you plan to explore the canals for a few nights or rest up for a night or two before kicking off a Mediterranean cruise.
