tl;dr – My experience co-working using the mycitizenM+ membership I gained from status matching.
One of my favorite things about the world of points and miles is that warm, fuzzy feeling when you feel like you got something worthwhile ‘fo free’, while putting in little to no effort.

In 2025, Marriott acquired citizenM hotels. As part of the acquisition, Marriott elites were eligible to status match with citizenM, which included the benefit of a complimentary one-year membership to mycitizenM+, a paid annual subscription-based which offers its members exclusive perks and savings at citizenM hotels.

One of those ‘perks’? Free co-working – even if you’re not currently staying at the hotel.

I’d never stayed at a citizenM hotel (I’ve never even been in one), but as my membership was set to end in a month (and I’d already elected not to renew it), I figured it was worth it to see what co-working at a citizenM hotel was like.
I just so happened to be in Rome, and there’s a new-ish citizenM hotel right across the street from the Tiber – the citizenM Roma Isola Tiberina.

I was staying too far away – right at Piazza della Rotonda, home to the Pantheon. While my hotel while it had a great view of the famed landmark, it didn’t really come with any other amenities…or space for that matter.

Thus, a comfortable place to get some work done was just what I needed.
citizenM hotels have a bit of a hip, localized vibe. There’s a lot of colorful, modern decor adorning the common areas. A little try-hard-edgy but in a forgivable way. The brand kinda feels like the product of a game of telephone where the original messenger was a Moxy hotel describing itself.

After heading to the check-in desk, I was instructed to visit the bar to show my mycitizenM+ membership card.

The card is a GIF of a traveler (it’s important that the bartender sees the man in motion to prove that your membership card is no fake!), which you can get in the app or on the website.

After check-in, I was given this rubber floppy disk (sorry, I forgot to snap a photo of it), proof that I was a member accessing the facilities for the day.
Members are entitled to 15% off food and drink. I didn’t order anything (I was in Rome after all and didn’t want to waste any appetite on any non-gelato, non-cacio-e-pepe, non-carbonara things), but the menu looked pretty good.

I believe there were also some free snacks – like yogurt and granola, and possibly even coffee.
The lobby / co-working are was spacious. Though I can’t say for certain that they weren’t hotel guests (I wasn’t able to spy the flopping disks), there appeared to be several other people coworking in the space, and nothing felt cramped. Everyone was spread out at their own tables. The wifi was strong, and I was able to focus in and get some much-needed work done.

I spent about three hours at the citizenM before heading back to my hotel, to head to the gym before grabbing dinner.
All in all, it was a solid experience. As members are eligible to check in between the hours of 11am and 6pm at citizenM properties, this perk could be quite handy if you need a place to ‘chill’ (or store your bags) before an evening/night flight out.
