💡
Tl;dr – One of the premier luxury hotel brands in the World is set to double (and then some!) its footprint by 2028, including four significant additions this year.
Capella Hotels is a chain that’s made a lot of noise over the last few years. Travel and Leisure magazine rated Capella as the No.1 Best Hotel Brand in the world in 2023 and 2024. Additionally, the World’s 50 Best rated Capella’s flagship location—The Capella Bangkok—as the best hotel in the world last year. It’s a mainstay for luxury travelers and a favorite ‘hall pass’ option for those who typically lean towards points and miles.
Given the fanfare, it’s exciting to hear that the brand is significantly expanding its footprint by opening twelve new hotels by 2028. Let’s dive into the details.
Capella Hotels Current Footprint
Capella Hotels has two hotel brands, Capella and Patina, and a line of residence properties. Currently, all hotels within the Capella portfolio are located in Asia or Oceania. They are as follows:
Existing Capella Hotels and Resort
- Capella Sanya
- Capella Ubub (Bali)
- Capella Hanoi
- Capella Shanghai
- Capella Singapore
- Capella Sydney
- Capella Bangkok

Existing Patina Hotels
Patina Hotels is a lifestyle brand from Capella. Currently, there’s one location, though, as discussed below, an exciting new location is coming this year.

New Capella Hotels 2026 and Later
Six new Capella Hotels and two Patina properties will come to market between 2026 and 2028. Since renderings for these locations are scarce currently, I’ve linked what’s available where applicable.

The Exciting Capella Hotels Coming in 2025
Without further ado, let’s take a peek at the one Patina and three Capella properties scheduled for 2025 debuts.
Patina Osaka
The Patina Osaka is scheduled to open in April 2025 and will be a 221-key outlet featuring some pretty snazzy rooms. As the first urban Patina location, the Patina Osaka will be a refreshing addition to Osaka’s luxury hotel landscape, which currently features a not-so-great St. Regis, a Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons Osaka, Conrad Osaka, and the upcoming Waldorf Astoria Osaka, which is also opening in April 2025.

The Capella Macau
Macau is a gambler’s haven, an Asian Vegas where gambling is turned up to ten and entertainment is down to one. Macau is just an hour’s ferry ride from Hong Kong and Shenzhen, and alongside Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China. The greater region is home to a who’s who of luxury hotel brands, with Macau itself housing a Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Four Seasons, and Mandarin Oriental, to name a few. The Capella at Galaxy Macau, scheduled for a Q2 2025 debut, will come dressed for the ball, as the gilded building will house “93 light-filled Sky Villas and suites”. Macau (and Vegas, for that matter) aren’t really my cup of tea, as the fun is all too manufactured, but there are bound to be folks who are excited about this opening. Here are some photos:

The Capella Kyoto
Kyoto is an immensely popular tourist destination, and to that end, there is no shortage of luxury properties – The Ritz-Carlton, Park Hyatt, Four Seasons, Aman, The Mitsui (review forthcoming), Suiran, and BanyanTree are all upper-market options to lay your head. And then, of course, there are numerous Ryokans for travelers eyeing a more traditional experience.
The Capella Kyoto, with only 92 rooms, will join the mix in late 2025. It seeks to match the serene aesthetic common to many accommodations around the Kyoto Prefecture. The photos look promising. Source: Capella Hotels

The Capella Taipei
Finally, there’s The Capella Taipei, a property I already have plotted to try out later this year. For all its glory, Taipei doesn’t boast the most potent lineup of luxury hotels. There’s the Shangri-La, Regent, Mandarin Oriental, and a Grand Hyatt that’s been holding down the Hyatt footprint on the island for a long while. That said, as we should see the opening of both Park Hyatt and the Andaz Taipei this year, the addition of The Capella Taipei should round out Taipei’s luxury offerings. Scheduled for a Q1 opening, The Capella Taipei has 86 rooms and is located in the Songshan district. Photos look inviting:

Conclusion
The Capella Hotel Group will be on quite a tear over the next few years, offering travelers headed to Asia and Oceania several new refined luxury accommodation options. I’d love to know if you have an eye on any particular properties in the comments!
