tl;dr – Has the Dream brand been axed in favor of Bunkhouse?
Recently, I was checking in on an upcoming property that I’ve long been intrigued by, the Dreams Valle de Guadalupe, situated in the underrated wine region of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula.
However, I noticed that the property, which again is not yet one, is now referred to as the Bunkhouse Valle de Guadalupe. The Google page for the property list the Dream project as permanently closed, which also calls into question whether this hotel is going to come to market at all.

I’m optimistic that it will, and I think the ‘permanently closed’ might just refer to the state of the project when it was under the Dream brand. It’s not dispositive by any means, but there is a live LinkedIn page for the Bunkhouse Valle de Guadalupe.

Additionally, this thread from Flyertalk references messaging on the upcoming resorts career page, hinting at a brand transition:
“*We are currently undergoing a strategic transition: our hotel will move from operating under the Dream Hotels brand to becoming part of Bunkhouse Hotels. This change reflects our commitment to delivering a unique and authentic experience for our guests.*
– Bunkhouse Valle de Guadalupe
Bunkhouse Valle de Guadalupe is a luxury lifestyle resort located in the heart of Mexico[’s] wine country. Spanning over 1 km, the resort has well-appointed guestrooms and suites, [a] feature[d] restaurant with [a] roof terrace, pool, and over 50,000 sqm of vineyards with a proprietary wine brand.”
Still, this switch-up in brand choice got me thinking. Is Hyatt moving away from Dream Hotels? Might Hyatt be collapsing all Dream properties into Bunkhouse (or one of its other brands)? It wouldn’t be the weirdest thing to do, as there are only five Dream Hotels right now.

The Dream brand came into the Hyatt portfolio via acquisition back in 2023. The following year, Hyatt acquired Bunkhouse, and it has already added a few new locations for the brand, two of which are elsewhere in Mexico.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Dream brand’s days are numbered. For one, it’s always been a bit confusing that Hyatt has two brands with super similar naming – Dream (the brand in question here) and Dreams (Hyatt’s mid-to-upscale family-friend all-inclusive property that is a direct sibling to the ‘Secrets’ brand). I can totally see there being someone in Hyatt’s marketing departing that’s been pounding the table for a change for quite some time.
