tl;dr – Bulgaria will be the 21st member of the eurozone.
Bulgaria, everyone’s favorite Black Sea nation, will adopt the EURO in 2026. As noted by AL Jazeera, “the Balkan country of 6.7 million people has been a European Union (EU) member since January 1, 2007, and joined the Schengen Area in March 2024, both of which marked pivotal moments in its integration into Europe.”

As it sheds the “lev”, the country will become the 21st member of the eurozone, leaving only six (of the 27) EU-member states as still-using-its-own-currency holdouts: The Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Sweden.

Of note, Bulgaria also launched a golden visa program a few years back, which turned heads as the program has no minimum residency requirement.
