The Ritz-Carlton is Coming to Lima, Peru – But There’s a Catch

Source: Marriott

tl;dr –  A classic Marriott ‘gotcha’!

Marriott recently announced a ‘new’ Ritz-Carlton location in Lima, Peru. If you’re a fan of the Ritz-Carlton brand, at first blush, this might be something to get excited about. However, pulling back the layers, you’ll find the news is at least somewhat less exciting. The property will be a conversion of the existing JW Marriott Lima in Lima’s waterfront Miraflores neighborhood.

To be clear, the JW Marriott Lima isn’t a bad property. I stayed there back in 2023, and it’s reasonably well located, close to several marquee restaurants and museums.

Maido, the reigning Best Restaurant in the World, is an 11-minute walk away. A short drive away, you’ll also find world-class spots like Mérito, Kjolle, Astrid y Gastón and Central.

The hotel is just across the street from the water, and depending on the room you have, you may have great views of the ocean or solid city views. If there’s a significant investment made in upleveling the property during the transition, it could certainly turn into a destination within the Ritz-Carlton portfolio.

Interestingly enough, the JW Marriott brand isn’t leaving the city. Instead, Marriott will convert The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center into a JW Marriott, moving the brand to the San Isidro neighborhood.
